Lassi is a typical Indian shake that can be either sweet or salty. It is yogurt-based and it contains spices, like cumin, and fruits, being mango the most common. This is another recipe I came up with for our Summer that is just around the corner. I used avocado and as I did a little research I found out that avocado contains nearly 20 vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients, including vitamins E, C and B, among others and it has monounsaturated fat, just like olive oil. Also, I wanted to point out a cultural factor: in Brazil avocados are associated mostly with sweet food and not with salty food as in many countries. Another ingredient I used, the lemon balm or melissa, a member of the mint family, is a very resistant perennial plant that grows indoors so well and can be used to make teas, salads or added to juices.
Ingredients
1 avocado
1 cup yogurt
2 tablespoons honey
leaves of fresh lemon balm (from my indoor garden)
1 cup ice (optional)
Sugar to taste
Directions:
1) Scoop the avocado pulp into a blender. Add the yogurt, honey, lemon balm and sugar to taste. Blend until pureed.
2) Add ice and blend again. Serve cold. You can pour jelly into the cups and add the lassi. I used the avocado peels as bowls.

So lovely! We the Vietnamese use avocado for sweet things, too!
I love avocados. And it wasn't until just recently, maybe within the last 3 years, that I discovered that. But you're right - I've never had a sweet dish made with avocados. This sounds intriguing and I might have to try it. You eat this like a dessert then?
Love,
Julie
Cris, I like avocados so much and haven't had any in ages!
This lassi sounds delicious.
You made a lassi:-)I am so happy to see the Indian word for smoothie/milkshake here.
I love, love the presentation in the very first pic.
Just thought I would pop back in to tell you that I put avocados in the steak salad for dinner tonight. I know it's still not sweet, but I thought of you as I was slicing them!
Love,
Julie
I can see how its texture really lends itself to sweet dishes, but I have to admit, I still love avocado slices on my turkey sandwich!
It's such a nice color, too, so pistachio-like! I really liked this post - lots of good information!
I'm going to buy some avocados this weekend just so I can make this! Yum! Thanks for a delicious entry for Grow Your Own #3!
So beautiful! My girlfriend used to live in Floride and had an avocado tree. She used to send me tons. Now, I'll have to go buy some and try your recipe! :)
Err..what's the berry looking stuff in the bottom picture?
They look so nice served in the hollowed out avocado!
I never would have thought of an avocado lassi until a friend made one for me once and I loved it!
Hey just popping back to remind you to stop by for a chance to win my giveaway.
Love,
Julie
Wow Cris!!! How festive and BEAUTIFUL! I am sure this is wonderful for the summer! There was this Morroccan restaurant in MA near where I lived and they sold avocado milkshakes. I always wanted to try one, but never got the oppurtunity...:(
I can make this instead - but I'll have to wait until summer!
Looks good, sounds good, and it's healthy!
I always associated lassi with mangoes, so it's great to see your version with avocados. And your presentation is just beautiful!
I must show this to mu oldest daughter. I think she will love it.
